Paul Hammant's Blog: European Software Patent Spectre
European Software Patent Spectre
We (Europeans) really need a 'Get Firefox' style button programme to marshal efforts against software patents. Something like http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=node/view/7456
The difference is that there should be a button per country (mine would have a union jack - british flag) on the left.
The second difference is that in the click-thru link, I should be able to specify a region ( http://www.europarl.org.uk/uk_meps/MembersMain.htm ). In my case South-East. Thus if clicked, SomeSiteToCollateClickThrus.com can list the hit count to that referring URL, and consequentially map that to the region in question. The members can see the weight of the campaign in their region. Nobody patent that!
The only way this can be defeated is EU parliamentary members can see the weight of opinion against patents. Currently there is no online way of gauging opinions.
